Learn how to make vanilla coffee creamer at home! You only need 4 ingredients and you can make it healthy, paleo, vegan, or keto-friendly.
Have you ever read the ingredients on the back of your store-bought vanilla coffee creamer? It’s kind of ridiculous really! For something that should be fairly basic and simple, there’s a long list of strange, chemical-sounding ingredients, along with artificial flavors and hydrogenated oils. Yuck! That is about as far from good for you as you can get! And, don’t even get me started on the low-calorie versions that use artificial sweeteners! Thankfully, there is a much healthier and more delicious option!
This Healthy Homemade Vanilla Coffee Creamer Recipe is super easy to make! You can whip up a batch over the weekend and store it in the fridge in a glass jar to use all week long. Best of all, you have complete control over what goes in it! This vanilla coffee creamer recipe only requires four simple ingredients, and it can easily be made vegan, paleo, or keto-friendly.
The flavor of this Homemade Vanilla Coffee creamer is right on point, too. It adds just enough sweetness and creaminess to your coffee, but it doesn’t taste artificial like store-bought creamers often do. Using real vanilla beans gives it an indulgent, deep, complex vanilla flavor that will have you totally hooked after just one batch. Don’t worry! If you don’t have vanilla beans, it’s delicious made with vanilla extract, too.
How to Make Vanilla Coffee Creamer at Home Just the Way You Like It
Before we dive into your healthy coffee creamer recipe, I just want to make a quick note about the vanilla beans. They give this homemade coffee creamer a complex, deep vanilla flavor that I love, but I absolutely cannot find them at a decent price in my local stores.
If you have the same problem, I’ve found that Amazon has the best price, so I order them online right here. This recipe is also very good when made with a high-quality vanilla extract (here’s the one I use) and it will save you some time, too. Do whatever works for you!
Ingredients for Paleo + Vegan Vanilla Coffee Creamer:
- 1 can of coconut milk (13.5 ounces)
- 2 tablespoons of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 3 tablespoons of coconut sugar
- Pinch of sea salt if desired (I think it brings out the vanilla flavor.)
- ½ of a vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ingredients for Keto Vanilla Coffee Creamer
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 3 tablespoons of Swerve granulated sweetener
- Pinch of sea salt if desired (I think it brings out the vanilla flavor.)
- ½ of a vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Easy Recipe for Vanilla Coffee Creamer
- In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients except for the vanilla bean or vanilla extract.
- Whisk over low-medium heat until the sweetener is completely dissolved, and small bubbles are starting to form. Don’t let it boil or it will scorch and ruin the whole batch!
- If you’re using a vanilla bean, scrape the seeds into your creamer and add the pod as well. Remove from heat, cover, and allow to sit for 30 minutes so the flavors can develop. Once cooled to room temperature, strain into a glass jar through a fine-mesh strainer. Discard the beans.
- If you’re using vanilla extract instead, you can simply whisk it in, turn off the heat, and pour it into a glass jar when it’s cool. There’s no need to strain.
- Store your finished Healthy Homemade Vanilla Coffee Creamer in the refrigerator for up to one week. If you won’t use it up in a week, freeze it in an ice cube tray and then store the cubes in a freezer bag until needed. When ready to use, add a cube directly to your coffee, microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and enjoy!
You can't go wrong with this homemade vanilla creamer in regular drip coffee, French Press coffee, or espresso. I recently tried it in my Homemade Cold Brew Coffee and it makes a delicious and super quick vanilla cold brew, too!
